Opinion: Tahoe Forest board chair a great public servant

Dr. Lawrence A. Danto’s recent letter, “Time for change at Tahoe Forest,” is woefully misinformed about Tahoe Forest Health District Board Chairwoman Dr. Karen Sessler’s service to the hospital district and to our greater community.

During my 13-year tenure as an elected member of the TFHD Board of Directors, I can state unequivocally that in all instances and stages of the decision-making process, Dr. Sessler always considered different points of view, respected her board colleagues and hospital staff, and consciously approached board decisions with the community’s input and best interests for outcomes in mind.

Her deliberations were always thoughtful, evidence-based, and calmly articulated. Like all board members, she did not always agree with a vote, yet she keenly understands the complexities of governance and the governing laws of any California health care district.

Characterizing Dr. Sessler as a “remnant” perhaps reflects back on the writer of the smug and odious opinion letter.

Dr. Danto owes Dr. Sessler a public apology for making near-libelous assumptions about a community member who has served with distinction in a difficult role.

Dr. Sessler embodies the spirit of public service and should be thanked, not mindlessly vilified in such a simplistic manner.

Peter Andrew Albert: Inspired by students

I was inspired by the local students who track the science of climate change and yet do not give up hope. I loved their optimism that if we can alter our behavior, we can halt…
