Opinion: Village at Squaw Valley development proposal is good

I am writing this letter in absolute support of the Village at Squaw Valley development. I have spent more time in Squaw Valley than any other place and I consider this place my home. I have skied, worked, and lived here for most of my life and I really want to see the best for this valley.

As a young person with so much invested here, I strongly believe that we need to be in support of the growth and expansion of the village and valley. To do this we must continue to make decisions that will foster and support growth to make this a place we can share with people like so many of us who want to invest in the future and success of Squaw Valley.

I was on the Squaw Valley Ski team from age 4 until high school. I then moved to Montana for college, but I could not wait to come back here and build a life. As soon as I graduated, I got a job teaching at Squaw Valley Preparatory and was able to return.

The reason I am so invested in this valley and in the project is because I see an opportunity to ensure a future for skiing, living and working here. This is something that is currently a huge challenge. Squaw is primarily a seasonal tourist environment, and it is challenging to be successfully employed for large parts of the year.

I see this project as something that will create a very positive change. I believe in this project, this valley, and the future of skiing. Let’s move forward and continue to create a community of positivity to build a village in an environmentally responsible way so that we can have a place that is as wonderful to live in as it is to visit and ski.
