Opinion: Vote for Perea and Prado for Truckee Fire Board

A rebuttal from Ron Perea, who is running for re-election to the Truckee Fire District Board, referring to Jim Porter’s local voting recommendations that appeared in the Sierra Sun on Oct. 21:

I am disappointed in Jim Porter, not that he is not supporting me, but just the fact that he had to publicly tell the voters not to vote for me. It is Mr. Porter’s choice not to support me, which I respect, but don’t publicize it without expecting a rebuttal.

When Mr. Porter states that 12 years is enough, don’t vote for me, I wonder if he means because he’s a supporter in “term limits,” or is he is saying that I am not doing my job and should not be re-elected? Mr. Porter does not attend our meetings, so if he feels I’m not doing a good job, where is he getting this information?

Here are a few items that I want to bring to the attention of the voters:

I have lived in Truckee since 1971 and spent 31 years with Nevada County Sheriff’s Department, Truckee Sub Station, where I was a community type officer.

I do not have a personal agenda. I deal with board matters as they come to my attention. I am not a one issue candidate, I spend a lot of time on the financial committee, I’m well versed on all the issues and I’m prepared on the items listed on the agendas. I am presently the Chairman of the Board of Directors. I have an open mind and I do not follow the influence or instructions of any one person or group.

I take all information into consideration before making a decision.

Mr. Porter stated, “If you have to vote for a second person, vote for Erin Prado.” I agree with him! But, Mr. Porter could have worded it differently by saying there are three names on the ballot, you have a choice to VOTE for two.

I say please vote for two, vote for the two “Ps” — PEREA and PRADO.

Ron Perea

Truckee Fire Protection District Board of Directors candidate
