Opinion: Vote for Randy Hill for Truckee hospital board
Per the Sierra Sun’s opinion letters policy, it’s important to note that Alicia Barr is an elected official on the Truckee Town Council. That said, Andy Barr assured the Sierra Sun after submitting this letter that the opinions shared within are that of himself and Ms. Barr’s as private citizens.
When considering the vibrancy of a community, two of the biggest factors are health care and education. We are extremely proud to look at those factors in Truckee-Tahoe and realize how fortunate we are, and how it is no accident.
Our community has placed these as a priority, demonstrated by their votes, actions and lifestyles. Randy Hill has demonstrated excellence in leadership to the community for the last 6 years on our school board, and as parents of an adolescent, we are grateful. Randy is now stepping up to help lead our hospital at a time when excellence in leadership couldn’t be more crucial given our national health care scene.
We all love this community, and this community deserves the highest quality medical care. We deserve local care whenever possible including obstetrics, orthopedics, cancer treatment at the TFHS state of the art cancer center, proactive health and wellness, and more.
We deserve a hospital that has intelligent, respectful, and effective governance balancing the enormous legal, financial and patient care challenges that exist in every hospital. That balance must always be weighed in favor of the patient regarding quality outcomes and breadth of local treatment while still navigating the real financial challenges.
It is mistaken and disingenuous to suggest that this balance can be achieved by reverting to a simple basic services hospital, reducing existing services and dismantling programs that provide high quality care and financial support. Randy Hill is the candidate that can help our community achieve the right balance.
We all have something to gain personally by electing Randy to the Hospital Board, which is why we personally support his efforts in this election. We all gain through the continuation and even improvement of the high quality rural health care we have and through the improved governance of the hospital.
