Opinion: Vote for Stephens for Truckee airport board

As a person who has experience working with nonprofits in Truckee, I am acutely familiar with the fact that we live in and are part of a great community. The continued involvement of passionate citizens whose goal it is to further enhance our community is something we need more of.

It is with that ideal in mind that I believe Rick Stephens is the right candidate for Truckee Tahoe Airport Board of Directors. If elected, I am confident his participation will prove to be an asset to all residents living in the communities on the North Shore and in Truckee.

Rick has the drive and determination needed to support our community as a member of the Airport Board. He has demonstrated his passion and commitment through the time and effort he put into projects such as Community House in Kings Beach, and the work he’s done as a volunteer on behalf of the Truckee River Watershed Council.

I agree with Rick’s position that the Airport District has the capability to assist with projects that make a difference in our community and contribute to enhancing the quality of life for residents. The Airport District’s assistance with the Truckee pool and the Tahoe City golf course are two examples, but there’s room at the table for the Airport District to participate in the discussions related to affordable workforce housing and regional transit as well. This is something that Rick is encouraging the Airport District to do.

Rick has experience as a small business owner, and excelled at both strategic planning and keeping the business moving in a positive direction. He is an experienced leader who will support efforts that maintain what so many of us have come to love about Truckee and Lake Tahoe.
