Opinion: Vote ‘yes’ on Nevada County’s Measure A

Nevada County’s public libraries need the help of the Truckee electorate. Our town library, and those in the western part of the county, are financed primarily through a nearly twenty-year-old voter-approved sales tax, and that tax is expiring and needs to be renewed through Measure A on your November ballot.

The tax we’re voting on this year is very small, only twenty-five cents — a mere quarter — for every hundred dollars of taxable sales. If, like me, you’re a library patron, that tiny expenditure brings a huge return in value. And the same is true if, like me, you believe public libraries are important for the education of our youth and as an accessible-to-all resource for our community.

Measure A will ensure that we can keep our local libraries open and provide the level of service that the public wants. And when we in Truckee ever build a new library, the revenue that will come through Measure A will help ensure we can adequately staff, stock, and maintain it.

So please, vote yes for Measure A. All of us benefit from a fiscally healthy library system.

Richard Anderson

Nevada County Supervisor, District 5
