Our View: Herger reaches out

Applause is due to our local voice in the U.S. Congress, Rep. Wally Herger (R-Chico), whose staff is now holding monthly office hours in Truckee.

Herger’s staff began offering these by-appointment sessions with his staff members in Grass Valley and attendance there is good. Constituents are given the chance to discuss whatever is on their mind with a trusted staff aide for our congressman.

The first of these sessions in Truckee was held last week. While only two people showed up, somewhat late attempts at publicity probably played a big part in that turnout.

Rep. Herger’s district stretches from Truckee north to the Oregon border, covering 10 counties and one of the largest chunks of land that any congressman has. It’s a big area with a lot of issues that matter to its locals.

Herger’s staff is making the effort to show Truckee that it’s not forgotten by the congressman. We hope that his staff’s next office hours in town get a better turnout and more locals make their voices heard.
