TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Truckee’s largest horseback riding facility, Piping Rock Equestrian Center, offers guided trail rides customized to guests’ riding skills and interests. Located off Interstate 80, the center is uniquely positioned to take advantage of miles of trails in the Tahoe Truckee area.

Trail riding offers families and friends a unique way to experience the Sierra Nevada. Trails meander through ponderosa pines, sagebrush, grassy meadows and streams. Vistas of Tinker’s Knob, Lookout Mountain and Prosser Creek greet riders with each jog in the trail. Wildlife, including deer and hawks, abound. Riding horseback provides a perspective that cannot be replicated from a car window.

and#8220;It was one of the most enjoyable rides that I have ever had an opportunity of taking. The river crossing was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had throughout my horseback riding history.” said guest Tammy Madison of her recent Piping Rock trail ride.

A good horse inspires trust and respect for even the timid rider. The trail horses are safe, reliable, and responsive. Not only does Piping Rock have all kinds of horses from ponies to Irish sport horses, there are baby animals of all sorts for the little ones to pet. You can even feed Midnight, the baby calf, or take goats Barbie and Cue for a walk.

The trail riding program is a great way for all ages to experience the fun of riding. To ensure everyone is comfortable in the saddle, all rides start with an orientation with an experienced guide and often the Western trainer. With three outdoor arenas and one covered arena, there is a safe place to build confidence before heading out on trail.

All rides are private and must be scheduled in advance either online or over the phone. Riders must be at least 8-years-old. For younger riders, Piping Rock offers lead line lessons. Piping Rock Equestrian Center encourages you to put a horse in your future and a carrot in your pocket.

Adventures await on daily one and one half hour group rides, or a relaxing Saturday evening sunset ride. The Saturday sunset ride will conclude with a ranch style barbecue of chicken, steak, salad, beans, dessert and drinks. Following dinner guests are invited to join in horseback games in the arena. Trail rides can also be a special way to commemorate family events such as birthdays and reunions. Adults and children cost $75 per person.
