Profiles of the weird… lawsuits
Two overweight teenagers have filed a class action lawsuit in New York against McDonald’s claiming unhealthy meals made them obese, which caused them to develop heart disease. It’s no wonder people hate lawyers.
Their legal consultant claims that children are unable to resist the Happy Meals and other toy promotions.
The suit came just weeks after another suit was filed in New York City by a 275-pound maintenance work against McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC and Wendy’s. He claims fatty burgers made him fat. Surprised he didn’t allege the onions gave him bad breath, which affected his love life, plunging him into depression, causing him to lose his house.
What’s next, a suit against Krispy Kreme Donuts?
MCDONALD’S SUED AGAIN
But that’s not all. Yet another suit against McDonald’s and Burger King has been filed in Southern California on a different legal theory.
This suit claims that during the frying of French fries the toxic chemical acrylamide is created. Acrylamide was put on the list of toxic chemicals as a result of Proposition 65, approved by voters in 1986.
Prop 65 requires warnings for products that expose consumers to any kind of chemicals that are capable of causing cancer or birth defects.
This is your classic case of “unintended consequences.” Government and legislators running amok, passing “feel good” laws not knowing what the hell they are doing. Bring on the acrylamide fries – with ketchup please.
J.K. Rowling, author of the fantastic Harry Potter books about a boy wizard (as if you didn’t know) won a lawsuit, which had been filed by another author accusing Rowling of lifting character names including “Muggles”.
The judge in the case ruled that the person who had sued Rowling had “perpetrated a fraud on the court” by altering documents after the first Harry Potter books were released. What people will do for money and fame.
WIFE BITES HUSBAND
This must be the most unusual death in California. A 65-year old Modesto man was apparently bitten to death by his 45-year-old wife who wanted to have sex with him.
When he refused, she held him down and bit him repeatedly. Preliminary pathology tests indicate he died from the bites.
That’s one desperate woman.
Apparently there is 9-1-1 tape recording of the husband screaming that he was being bitten, and the wife tried to bite the arresting officers. And it wasn’t even Halloween.
