Rabbi Bob Alper to entertain in Tahoe Vista

Itand#8217;ll be 90 minutes of non-stop laughter on Sunday, Feb. 28, when Rabbi Bob Alper, and#8220;the worldand#8217;s only practicing clergyman doing stand-up comedyand#8230;intentionally,and#8221; makes his Tahoe Vista debut in a program open to the entire community. Alperand#8217;s fresh, contemporary, and totally and#8220;unorthodoxand#8221; style has been delighting audiences from Hollywoodand#8217;s IMPROV to The Montreal Comedy Festival. Program begins at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28, North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation, 7000 Latone Blvd., Tahoe Vista. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Alper is a graduate of Lehigh University, was ordained at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, and is the first Jewish person ever to earn a doctorate from the Princeton Theological Seminary. He has served congregations in Buffalo and Philadelphia, where he continues to conduct High Holiday services.

Alper began his comedy career in 1986 when he entered the and#8220;Jewish Comic of the Year Contestand#8221; at the Going Bananas club in Philadelphia. Television, radio and personal appearances followed as he quickly honed his distinctive approach to stand-up. He has been seen on Good Morning America, The Today Show, Showtime, the BBC, and CNN, among many others.

Today, Alper performs nearly 80 shows per year, drawing tremendous audience numbers and response. His humor is fast-paced and sophisticated, yet gentle and unhurtful: all in all, a charming and affable comedian. In addition to his solo shows, Alper performs frequently in an extraordinary pairing with Muslim comedian Azhar Usman.

Alper is the author of two books that further showcase his considerable talents: and#8220;Life Doesnand#8217;t Get Any Better Than This,and#8221; an inspirational collection now in its fifth printing, and the award-winning full-color cartoon book and#8220;A Rabbi Confesses.and#8221; Heand#8217;s also produced two best-selling comedy CDs, and is proud to announce the release of his new, 102-minute DVD, and#8220;What are youand#8230;a comedian?and#8221;

Alper resides in rural Vermont with his wife Sherri, a psychotherapist. They are empty-nest parents of Zack and Jessie.
