Our son, Travis, was recently selected for the Alpine Development Team of the U.S. Ski Team. This achievement required a great deal of travel to races and missed schooling. We wish to acknowledge the educational support provided by our community that allowed him to complete his schooling locally. He was able to attend four different high schools in an effort to best accommodate his coursework while traveling.

Our thanks go to teachers, staff, and administration at North Tahoe High School, Coldstream Alternative School and Truckee High School; all part of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. We are grateful for their flexibility with scheduling and the extra time spent in preparing and administering independent study contracts.

In addition, we were lucky to have the resource of Squaw Valley Academy, a private school where Travis was able to attend summer school and complete courses so that he could take off winter term during ski season. His high school educational program has required cooperation with schools across our school district and between district and private schools. We applaud each of them for their willingness to allow and assist a student who followed a slightly different path.

My daughter and I went to see the high school play Cinderella on Saturday night. It was absolutely wonderful. The set and costumes were incredible, the acting and singing was fantastic and the music was super. It was a real treat. We encourage everyone in Truckee to go see this fun play. It is great for all ages and would be a tragedy to miss. Support the high school as well!

Why vote for Ray Shine for Superior Court Judge, Nevada County? Well, I have practiced law in this county for over 32 years and am now retired. I have the privilege of knowing, working with, against and socializing with Ray for all these years. Ray has a broad expanse of legal knowledge. He knows our county well, as he attended high school here, practiced here, is raising his family here and has been involved in many community organizations.- Ray has sat as Judge Pro Tem off and on for 17 years. Ray’s experience, intelligence, competence and hard work ethic will give us the kind of Judge we need. Indeed, that is why I will vote for Ray Shine. Shine.
