As I continue to read more press articles on the consideration of ferry service on Lake Tahoe, I am growing more concerned about the absence of mention of Kings Beach and the proposed pier extension as a site for ferry service.-
As a Pathways 2007 Forum member we have discussed this and Kings Beach is discussed. A recent article in the Sierra Sun includes numerous sites but specifically did not mention Kings Beach. There has been long standing discussion amongst NTPUD staff, state agency staff, TRPA staff and the business community. There seems to be consensus for the pier project, which would support the proposed ferry service. There are even draft concept plans for the potential pier.
My question from a community perspective is how do we ensure that Kings Beach and the proposed pier project are actively included in the discussion as a possible North Shore location? With the Incline Village opposition to a pier and the community support for a pier in Kings Beach, it seems clear to me that Kings Beach should be clearly included in the list of possible sites under serious consideration for a ferry service site. This is especially so when you consider proximity to Highway 267 and Truckee and the people entering the Tahoe Basin from that location.-
I certainly hope the recent omissions of Kings Beach is just an accidental oversight and not intentional. Oddly enough, most of the sites listed in the article under consideration are private sites. The Kings Beach site is already a public site with accessibility to the public not in question. The area for the site is publicly owned (State Parks, CTC, DBW and NTPUD either own or control the property).-
