My son, Cameron, was friends with Coogan and he used to hang out at our house. He was a good good kid and will be greatly missed. It saddens me to think of another young life lost for no reason. Until we as a society stop using violence to solve all our problems we are doomed to endure these kinds of stories on a regular basis. We must start to teach our youth about peaceful co-existence and their individual right to be different and allow others to be themselves. Guns, war and violence don’t solve anything. They are simply the way of stupid men, and now a days children, who are not smart enough to reason and compromise, who think that only what they believe in is right. Teach your children the way of tolerance, not the way of the warrior.Paul BartoliniTruckee
It does not surprise me to see Greg Marks and his cronies attacking Nevada County Supervisor Sue Horne, county CEO Rick Haffey and county Community Development Agency Director DeCamp. I have had the pleasure of working with all of these people and can say without prejudice that they hold a level of ethics and integrity not seen in Nevada County for many years. To slander someone because they have ethics and standards, and to turn their beliefs into something wrong, is ridiculous and unforgivable. Not everyone practices what they preach when it comes to treating people fairly and morally.Get rid of Marks and his ilk, do not listen to their twisted rhetoric, and have the intelligence to think for yourself.Support Supervisor Horne, acknowledge what excellent leaders you have in CEO Haffey and CDA Agency Director DeCamp, and stop and think about how well the county is being run.Taryn A. Hey folks! Here’s a suggestion for what to do with these greedy developers. As a former worker at one local development, I can assure you that they have the ethics of a black widow spider. Same goes for a few of the local contractors. We deal with them the same way they dealt with people of their ilk 150 years ago. I’m sure some local roofers could spare a little tar and the geese on the golf course could lose a few feathers.Kevin ReeveTruckee
Im so thankful our country is now prosecuting illegal immigrants. They are here illegally. I support this action and encourage others to as well. Please write your senators and representatives and show your support. They need to know. The other side is writing them as well.America is the greatest country in the world. No wonder so many want to come here. This small step will make our country a safer place.Susan KerberTahoe City
Last week I called Rep. John Doolittle’s office in Washington, D.C., and told his aid, Josh, that I, along with eight in 10 Americans, wanted Doolittle to do the right thing for American children and help override Bush’s veto. Looks like John let us down again. Let’s do more without Doolittle in 2008. I know our Good Man Charlie Brown would not have let us down.Jeff StoneSouth Lake Tahoe
Mr. Doolittle, would you please tell your constituents why you voted no on these important social issues?H.R. 3567: Small Business Investment Expansion Act of 2007 – To amend the Small Business Investment Act of 1958 to expand opportunities for investments in small businesses. Passed 325-72; 35 not voting. Doolittle voted: No.H.R. 3121: Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization Act of 2007 – To restore the financial solvency of the national flood insurance program and to provide for such program to make available multiperil coverage for damage resulting from windstorms and floods. Passed 263-146; 23 not voting. Doolittle voted: No.H.R. 976: State Childrens Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP) Reauthorization – A bill to amend title XXI of the Social Security Act to reauthorize the State Childrens Health Insurance Program. Passed 265-159; 9 not voting. Doolittle voted: No.I consider these issues to be very important to middle-class working folks and poorer members of our community. Our nation, as a whole, would benefit from this type of legislation. So why is it that Doolittle doesnt seem to want to fund programs that would help the common citizenry and the society it forms? Please write or e-mail Mr. Doolittle (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your concerns and questions (pro or con). Our congressional representatives need to know what we, as citizens, want for ourselves and our country. Get involved. I have e-mailed Mr. Doolittle about his vote on these House resolutions and should have a reply in a few weeks.
