Readers Write: Actions speak louder than words Superintendent Jennings

I will get right to the point. Why hasn’t the Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District supplied the state-adopted consumable newspaper text for social studies and the state-adopted consumable textbook for language arts for my child’s 2nd grade class? All of the teachers were sent to a week-long training session for the Houghton Mifflin state-adopted curriculum last year at great expense. If the district cares so much about our children’s education, why are they not providing the state-adopted text in our classrooms? Is this legal? Actions speak louder than words superintendent. If you tell me the reason is budget cuts I will scream. Are we now cutting “education” out of the education budget? We parents already supplement our children’s education by paying for after-school language classes, after-school art classes, after-school music classes, etc. Are we now to supplement our children’s “education” by paying for after-school education in social studies or language arts classes so our children can learn to read and write and find Lake Tahoe on the map?! Who is “sacrificing the educational experience” of my child’s education and “hurting the students” now superintendent? Is it the teachers who will not take the students on a field trip until their contract is settled or is it the district that will not provide the classroom with text material for state-mandated learning!!
