Readers Write: No rational
I can see no rationale other wise for the “nay” votes garnered at the June 25 Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board. Against the recommendation of virtually all stakeholders our own Placer County Supervisor Bruce Kranz betrayed public trust and certainly crossed ethical boundaries with his lack up support for the Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project.
The project has been in planning for decades with the goals of improving air and water quality, pedestrian and bicycle mobility and to enhance aesthetics and help spur redevelopment. The proposed hybrid three-lane is supported by facts and years of expert review, public input and thousands of hours of volunteer time with costs already in the millions. To discount these efforts and the true sense of hope fostered in the community is completely unethical.
The details have been hammered out on many occasions, and project support has been building at all levels so this meeting should have been less about asking questions than moving forward. Furthermore, Mr. Kranz made himself absent from a fair portion of public comment and didn’t hear my bit on wasting resources. In the face of major issues of wildfire and quagga mussels the TRPA Governing Board had just discussed focusing their energy and not causing decision making delays that Lake Tahoe depends on. So much for that.
