Readers write: Stay vigilant
It is hard to believe but it has been almost a year since the Washoe Fire destroyed several homes in our neighborhood. Through the valiant efforts of fire and law enforcement personnel, the rest of the homes in the neighborhood–including ours–were saved.
For us the fear of that day remains a vivid memory. Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone, including the second homeowner who lives behind us. On the night of July 2, while having yet another loud party, the party goers decided to shoot fireworks from their back deck. When we asked them to stop, they laughed and shouted profanities at us. Consequently, we got the sheriff involved.
The Placer County Sheriff’s officer who responded was courteous, polite and helpful. We are very grateful for his assistance during what we know is a busy and stressful time for them. He was diligent enough to stay in the neighborhood for awhile to make sure this activity did not resume.
It is unfortunate for all of us who appreciate this beautiful place that we are put in danger by the stupidity and lack of respect by a few ignorant jerks. We encourage all our neighbors to remain vigilant during this fire season and report idiots such as this one to law enforcement.
Once again, we thank all the fire and law enforcement people who helped save our homes last August. It is our hope that your heroics will not be needed here again this summer.
