Reiki sessions to offer energy work, donations to cancer programs

Amy Edgett / Sierra SunMarianne Klemm, RMT, right, is surrounded by health products from NaturaMed at the Women's Wellness Weekend at Granlibakken resort Sunday. Office coordinator Bertha Escalera, left, and owner Dr. Ann Sura, middle, provided a wealth of information for attendees.

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. _ At the age of 13, my best friend’s brother fell off the roof of his house. When they took him to the hospital for an x-ray, instead of finding a fracture in his spine, they found a very rare form of cancer. I remember his sister telling me it was called “hide and go seek cancer.” Two years later, on March 16 at the age of 14, Michael passed away. Michael was my first introduction to the “C” word. I now know many others, some friends, some family and some clients.

Around the time that Michael passed, I had my first introduction to Reiki, a modality that moves energy in the body using the hands. In my first experience with Reiki as a teen, I knew this was something I wanted to know how to do. They say, “when the student is ready, the teacher appears.” This occurred for me in 2003 in Pennsylvania. I continued my studies here in Lake Tahoe through many additional teachers and hands-on study, receiving my Masters Reiki attunement in 2006.

Two years ago with the help of Dr. Ann Sura, I was able to open my own practice Reiki Tahoe at NaturaMed Natural Family Medicine in Kings Beach. Dr. Sura’s vast knowledge of Naturopathic medicine has been an important complement to my energy work. I have been fortunate to help many clients now, including oncology patients.

This holiday season, from Nov. 20-Dec. 20 I will donate $5 of every full price Reiki session and $10 of every full price Raindrop Reiki session to one of two charities. The client will be able to choose between the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Why should you experience Reiki? Reiki can help on all levels, emotional, physical and mental. It can help the mind to stop running in circles and create a space for clarity and positive thinking. It can help release and ease physical pain. Reiki can help relieve the overwhelming emotions that can accompany sickness or illness and allow you to create a healing space in your life. You don’t need to have aliments to experience Reiki, it can be a rejuvenating and relaxing experience as well.

If you can think about how energy works in the world, how we are made up of energy and how even though we may not be conscious of it, we all feel energy on a daily basis through our emotions, then you can understand how moving old energy out of the body and putting new energy in can help us heal.

I invite you to help me help others this holiday season. Allow yourself to receive the gift of Reiki and know that you are doing it for a great cause.

Reiki Tahoe is located at NaturaMed Natural Family Medicine in Kings Beach. For more information on Reiki, Raindrop Reiki or Marianne Klemm, please visit For an appointment please call 530-546-0400.
