Remembering 9/11: Toccata presents 9/11 Memorial Concert Series

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Series features returning guest Artist Elizabeth Pitcairn with the Red Stradivarius Violin and concludes with the Beethoven 9th Symphony. Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (Toccata) will finalize their 21-concert 2011 Big Blue Summer MusicFest with a series which commemorates the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. The program features famed violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing Mozartand#8217;s Concerto for Violin #3 in G major on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin. The concert will conclude with Beethovenand#8217;s masterpiece Symphony #9 in D major with soloists Katharine DeBoer, Joy Strotz and Olivia Hakel, sopranos; Brian McNiff, tenor; Stuart Duke, baritone and features the Toccata Chorus. Maestro James Rawie, Toccataand#8217;s founder and director, will conduct all performances. Because of the length of this performance, the 3rd movement of the Beethoven will be omitted.

The concerts are Sunday, Sept. 11, 3:30 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, South Lake Tahoe; Tuesday, Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m., St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral, Reno; Friday, Sept. 16, 7 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, Reno and Saturday, Sept. 17, 3 p.m., North Tahoe Events Center, Kings Beach, Calif.

Two special events will take place in elegant private homes as fundraisers for the concert series and for the new Tahoe Symphony Youth Orchestra. The first one is Thursday, Sept. 8, 5 p.m., Incline Village and the second is Saturday, Sept. 10, 3 p.m., Glenshire/Truckee. Admission to the fundraisers is $100 per person. Wine and cheese is included with special entertainment. For information call 787-602-2121.



Tickets are $30 adults, $25 seniors, (62 and up), and $5 students. Preferred seating is available for $40 and can be reserved online. Children under 12 enter free with a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased in advance by credit card at http://www.ToccataTahoe.com or at the door by cash or check. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the concert.
