Reno/Tahoe Geotourism Conference announced
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. and#8212; The Reno/Tahoe Geotourism Conference and Workshop will bring together environmentalist, economist and business leaders to focus on profitably expanding Geotourism, May 22, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nev. Sessions will be interactive, giving participants the ability to participate and ask questions to plan their sustainable strategy.
Geotourism is the largest growing visitor segment, representing 55 million Americans and is estimated to grow to nearly 100 million. This large visitor segment is affluent, educated and they seek a travel experience to immerse themselves in natural elements of a destination while they learn about customs, geography and culture.
Presenting speakers include Jill Savery, head of sustainability for the Americaand#8217;s Cup Event Authority and consultant to the Reno/Tahoe Winter Games Coalition; Michael Dettinger, Ph.D., research hydrologist, U.S. Geographical Survey; Kim Rollins, Ph.D., environmental economics; and Bret Gilles, chief sustainability officer at POWDR Corp.
The Conference will also feature panel presentations and discussions with resorts, visitor associations, chambers of commerce and local and state government officials. Topics will include: sustainable technologies and products for tourism facilities and destinations; partners in stewardship and#8211; collaborating with government agencies and the impact of public policy; engaging green travelers as key stakeholders in the future of the local tourism economy.
The conference will also include continental breakfast, lunch and break refreshments; tours of the LEED Platinum Certified Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences; screenings of the 3-D environmental movie and#8220;Lake Tahoe In Depthand#8221; and an optional evening reception in conjunction with the Tahoe Science Consortium.
The conference has been developed by Sierra Adventure Marketing, LLC in conjunction with The Tahoe Science Consortium.
