Representing the club

Victor Cisneros is a good friend, is involved in his community and is, above all, a leader. These qualities are some of the reasons why the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe recently chose the 14-year-old as Youth of the Year. I have only been here 15 months and Ive seen his self esteem develop in those 15 months. Hes respected by his teen colleagues, said Isabelle Rodriguez, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe. Hes a great guy. Hes a great friend to his friends. The kids really like him here. Matt Martin, Boys & Girls Club teen program manager, said Cisneros was chosen by club employees for his leadership at the club and in the community, doing the right thing, club participation and wanting to make positive changes. Cisneros, a freshman at North Tahoe High School, was entered into the Boys & Girls Clubs statewide Youth of the Year competition. As part of the entry, Cisneros had to complete an essay on his goals, which are to graduate high school and go to college, he said. It felt good because Im the one that represents the club, Cisneros said of the honor. I feel like Im a role model for my little brother. He looks up to me.As part of the recognition, the Kings Beach resident also attended a luncheon recently in Sacramento and met politicians and two members of the Sacramento Kings. Cisneros, who has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club for seven years, is also a member of Creating Alternatives, is involved with Education Matters and was chosen to attend a six-week art and adventure program this summer. He also enjoys soccer, skateboarding and backpacking.
