Special to the Sun

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; For the third year in a row, businesses and schools in cooperation with service clubs have partnered with the Rotary Club of Truckee to connect high school students with a broad range of resources for their lives after high school.

On March 30, 2012 the North Tahoe Conference Center, Kings Beach will host 380 high school juniors for a day-long resource fair. Students will hear keynote speaker Isabelle Rodriguez and roam 10 stations that aim to provide information students need as they enter their senior year. Topics will focus on themes such as job trends, service and vocational opportunities, financial aid and career assessment. Sierra College and Sierra Nevada College representatives will also be present to answer questions about career training and educational degree options.

Truckee, Tahoe City and Incline Village Rotary groups, as well as Soroptimist, Optimist and Lions clubs are sponsoring the event Friday, March 30 at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. The club has partnered with TTSUD and Incline Village High School to provide bus transportation for juniors from four high schools and private academic institutions. HeyChef! of Truckee and the Town of Truckee Police Department will provide a barbecue lunch. Several businesses have donated raffle prizes.

The Rotary Club of Truckee founded this event in 2010 with the help of TTUSD and businesses. Since then it has grown to encompass private schools and Incline Village students. The Resource Fair committee, headed by Pat Gibbons-Johnson, Greg McDougall and Holly Verbeck has a mission of providing juniors with a day to explore available resources as they begin to chart their future beyond high school.
