Rough Rider to headline Tahoe Forest Hospice benefit

The Tahoe Forest Hospice will be hosting its sixth annual benefit dinner at the Resort at Squaw Creek to raise funds for patients and services.Tahoe Forest Hospice, which started in 1999, now provides end-of-life care and support for 12 terminally ill patients and their family members. While insurance companies provide per diem reimbursement for patients, it is hospice that must provide all prescriptions, comfort care services such as chemotherapy and radiation, and in-home needs such as oxygen, according to Eileen Knudson, director of services for Tahoe Forest Hospice. Although many insurance plans provide for hospice care, there are limits to that coverage, and not all patients have insurance. To provide the maximum amount of care, hospice must raise 40 percent of its own funds. The benefit, which usually brings in $20,000 to $30,000, serves to fill that gap. Attendees at this year’s dinner will be well entertained by a regional favorite Clay Jenkinson, a renowned historian, author, and scholar, who will be performing as President Teddy Roosevelt. Stand-up comedian and wine connoisseur Kim Caffrey will also take the stage for a light-hearted lesson on the evening’s wine selections. A raffle will also be held with prize packages that include backpacking in New Zealand, a resort getaway to Arizona, and a stay at an Italian Villa.
