The Russian National Orchestra delighted a large audience on the greens of Tahoe Donner last Saturday evening as part of this year’s Lake Tahoe Summer Music Festival. The Russian National Orchestra, conducted by Carlo Ponti, highlighted the fourth performance in the 2004 festival with the American and Russian National Anthems. Other highpoints of the evening were “Carmen Fantasy” by Sarasate, in which 23-year old violinist, Teisikow Vadim, amazed the crowd with his solo work; and “Trombone Concerto” by Chris Brubeck.

The innovative piece, which combined classical, jazz, funk, Broadway, and other styles of music, showcased Brubeck’s trombone playing. He was backed up on drums by brother, Dan (Both are sons of legendary jazz great Dave Brubeck).

Chris displayed his trombone expertise by playing a wide range of notes with ease and precision, ranging from high to very low. The Russian National Orchestra is a group of extremely talented musicians, and those fortunate enough to hear them play on a beautiful summer evening were glad they had the opportunity.
