TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Wrinkles, fine lines and age spots can make your face and arms and chest look and feel older than it really is. Thanks to Botox, fillers, peels and other cosmetic anti-aging treatments, we don’t have to resign ourselves to the aging process like our parents and grandparents did before us.

Botox is the ideal solution for preventing and correcting those pesky brow wrinkles and fine lines. Botox injections cause the brow muscles to become relaxed and temporarily eliminate fine lines. Facial wrinkles become much less noticeable. Dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, mimic skin-hydrating hyaluronic acid and reduce the appearance of smile wrinkles and fine lines that appear around the mouth, nose and chin. Hyper-pigmentation, age spots and sun damage are increasingly noticeable as we age. Chemical peels reduce the appearance of superficial wrinkles and age spots by removing the skin’s upper layers. Spot laser treatments and Broad Band Light therapy are also tremendous spot removing therapy and very affordable.

Risks and benefits

When we invest in cosmetic procedures, we all want to know what the effects will be, how long they will last and what side effects are associated with the treatment. After Botox injections, most patients see results after 2-4 days with cosmetic benefits lasting approximately 3-4 months. Most patients receive secondary injections after three or four months.

Dermal fillers produce long-lasting results that continue up to one year after treatment. Common side effects include swelling, redness, firmness and bumps that subside within one week.

Patients with allergies and chemical sensitivities should talk to their doctor before treatment as some procedures can cause allergic reactions. Anti-aging treatments should only be performed by qualified physicians who have in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy. Doctors who perform these treatments include dermatologists, board-certified plastic surgeons and ophthalmologists. If 60 is the new 50 and 50 is the new 40, Botox, fillers and chemical peels and laser treatments can help us look as good as we feel at any age.
