Sierra Nevada Dance presents ‘The Nutcracker Ballet’

Submitted to aedgett@sierrasun.comThe cast takes a bow during "The Nutcracker Ballet" dress rehearsal in preparation for Dec. 16-17 performances at Truckee High School.

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. – Sierra Nevada Dance is proud to present “The Nutcracker Ballet” at the Truckee High School auditorium, 11725 Donner Pass Road, Truckee, featuring more than 125 area dancers.

These dancers range from 3-years-old to adult and have been rehearsing countless hours since October. They are excited to have the opportunity to finally get on stage and perform. Sherri Peterson who produces and choreographs the show said, “I am so fortunate to get to work with so many wonderful kids.”

In order to put on a successful show of this size, it takes a lot of communication, organization and dedication from the performers, their families and the community. From the try-outs, creating a rehearsal schedule, costumes, ticket sales, music and lighting, backstage help, etc. it takes a ton of time and volunteers to make it all come together. But according to Sherri, it is all worth it when the curtain opens, the lights and music begin, and all of the hard work pays off when she sees all of the smiling faces and the children having so much fun.

Celebrate the holidays and support the young ones and this exciting community event.

Show times are as follows: Friday, Dec. 16, 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 17, 7 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 18, 3 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the door.
