Sierra Sun election letters policy

It’s election season yet again, and as our local races gain steam toward the Nov. 4 general election, we want to make sure readers are aware of the newspaper’s policy regarding election-related letters to the editor and My Turn columns.

In addition to the Sierra Sun’s standard policy for editorial-page submissions, the Sun has the following guidelines for election-related letters:

The opinion pages are a forum for comments on candidates and political issues, and we welcome opinions from residents and their endorsements of candidates.

However, the Sun will not publish personal attacks, false information or stretched facts, and reserves the right to limit the number of rebuttals.

If a letter is written by a candidate, his or her affiliation must be clearly stated.

If a letter is written by an elected official, his or her affiliation must be clearly stated.

Limit for a letter is 300 words. My Turn columns hold a 700-word limit. Due to their size, letters will be published first, where as My Turn columns will take a backseat and run the risk of not publishing due to space limitations.

Political letters for the Nov. 4 general election will not be printed after the Wednesday, Oct. 29, print edition of the Sierra Sun — including online at http://www.tahoedailytribune.com — unless deemed necessary for a reply to a previous issue.

Any questions about this policy can be directed to Managing Editor Kevin MacMillan at kmacmillan@sierrasun.com.
