Sing a song: Truckee Sing-a-Long draws a crowd

ABHUTCHISON, Sierra Sun

When Steve Coniglio and Sharine Drake took over the job from former longtime Truckee resident Tom Albright of organizing Truckee’s annual Christmas Sing-A-Long this year, they were ill-prepared for the large crowd of 100-plus people who turned out to serenade Truckee’s downtown businesses and streets.

Some came to Friday night’s event wearing Santa hats and some came wearing bells and reindeer antlers. They came from all directions, indeed.

“The response was nothing short of overwhelming,” Coniglio said, adding he was greatly appreciative of the community’s participation. “We were expecting 15 to 25 people to show up, not the 100-plus that braved the cold night to sing out in community spirit.”

Although their initial plan of attack failed to handle the numbers that turned out, Coniglio and Drake want to thank all who came for their patience and good humor in dealing with the “runaway train situation.”

“We hope all had fun, and with the lessons we’ve learned, promise that next year’s event will go much smoother,” Coniglio said.

Regardless of the chaos, Truckee’s Christmas spirit came alive by the showing and those lucky tourists and locals alike were entertained by the carols – especially when the group was singing two different songs.
