Smooth roads ahead for town

Anyone who doubted the benefits of incorporation in Truckee need only take a look at the smooth surface of Donner Pass Road.

It’s easy enough to see the good side of using tax money from Truckee to help our town, rather than sending it to central coffers in Nevada City.

Although it has taken a few years to reach this point, the town now appears to have crossed a crucial hurdle with that passage of the Measure A road maintenance sales tax.

Other construction projects, including the Western Undercrossing and the replacement of the Glenshire Bridge, are under way. Who can say where those plans would have ranked in the plans of Nevada County, if the town had not incorporated?

Without the town’s pro-active role in negotiating with Union Pacific, the compromise which paid for the undercrossing might never have come to fruition.

Although some have chafed under the increased regulations imposed by the town, it’s important to remember that Truckee as a whole has a bigger say in its destiny than it did before.

All you have to do to see that is take a drive down Donner Pass Road.
