SnowFest! call for new events

TAHOE, Calif. and#8212; SnowFest!, celebrating its 31st year, is looking for new events to add to the calendar for the annual North Lake Tahoe Festival. The 10-day winter carnival celebration is scheduled for Friday, March 2 through Sunday March 11, 2012.

A long-standing tradition throughout the North Lake Tahoe community, SnowFest! provides winter fun, on and off the slopes, for local residents and travelers to the area, and is produced through sponsorships from local businesses, corporate sponsors and the support of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. This yearand#8217;s event is once again expected to draw thousands of attendees.

Last yearand#8217;s SnowFest! featured 60 events including a torchlight parade, laser show and fireworks at Squaw Valley, community parades in Tahoe City and Kings Beach, the now famous Gar Woods Polar Bear Swim, snow sculpting, wacky winter bowling, the Tahoe Localman competition and the dog pull. The festival has events for the young and not-so-young, educational events and arts related events. There is a Luau at Sunnyside Resort and a Mardi Gras party at Jakeand#8217;s on the Lake, a fastest bar server race at Pete and#8216;n Peters and a Ribfest at the Bridgetender.

Thereand#8217;s never enough SnowFest! so the organization is recruiting new events. Any business, nonprofit organization, or individual in the North Lake Tahoe/Truckee area can host an event. The event can be music related, a sports activity, something wild and wacky or sophisticated. It can be for kids or adults or animals. The purpose of the event can be to market your business or raise funds in support of a cause.

SnowFest! is heavily publicized, not only in the Reno/Tahoe market but throughout California and Nevada and other parts of the country. If event information is received prior to Oct. 30, the event will be included on 50,000 rack cards produced by SnowFest! The rack cards are distributed by local restaurants, bars and businesses, beginning at Thanksgiving, and distributed throughout the Reno/Tahoe area, the Silicon Valley Corporate market and the Northern California Winter Sports stores.

If you have an idea for a new event, contact the SnowFest! office at 530-583-7167 or e-mail for an event form or help with a concept for something fun to sponsor during SnowFest!
