SnowFest! wants Queen Candidates in the Tahoe Truckee region
TAHOE CITY and#8212; The annual SnowFest! Queen Contest has long been a favorite fundraiser and an important part of SnowFest!, the famed winter carnival. SnowFest! is inviting all local non-profit organizations to take part in this popular fundraiser, which is slated to start before the Christmas Holidays.
Any local nonprofit can sponsor a Queen Candidate.
In order to qualify, the organization must sponsor a girl who lives and attends high school in the North Lake Tahoe Area, which encompasses Truckee, Incline Village, North Shore, West Shore, and the Truckee River Corridor. The organization must also sell raffle tickets alongside their candidate.
In addition to the raffle, the Queen Candidates compete in a series of activities before the actual Queen is crowned. These activities include an interview and writing an essay.
According to SnowFest! Executive Director Ruth Schnabel, and#8220;In the past, some of the candidates have asked if they can run a second time because the experience helped them gain so much self-confidence.and#8221;
The competition benefits the girls as well as the organizations. and#8220;For many of the girls, this is the first interview they have ever given,and#8221; said Queen Committee Chairperson Nileta Morton. and#8220;We try to make it a positive experience by creating a welcoming environment for them. Our Queen Committee is made up of local business women and philanthropists who work hard to be positive roll models for the girls.and#8221; The Queen is awarded a $500 cash scholarship and the first two runners-up each receive a $100 cash scholarship.
