Social Scene: Fifties-themed bash shakes, rattles and rolls Lake Tahoe

TAHOE, Calif. and#8212; Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Laverne and Shirley, The Fonz, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Lucille Ball, Sandra Dee and Grease’s Olivia Newton John, were just some of the 50s icons channeled by party goers at a 50s-themed party at the Carnelian Bay lakefront home of Sue and Sam Harrosh Saturday night, Aug. 21. Everyone enthusiastically embraced the nostalgic theme. The 50s brought back fond memories to many and#8212; it was an age when America was enjoying peaceful and prosperous times with the culmination of world wars. Life was much simpler then.
Cool cats and greasers donned jeans, tight T-shirts, leather jackets, vintage letter jackets and sweaters and greased back hair; while chicks sported pony tails, pedal pushers, poodle skirts and crinolines, mink stoles, and vintage dresses and#8212; accessorizing with lace anklets, hair scarves and rhinestone studded glasses.
About 200 guests flowed from inside the cavernous great room of the large home and out onto the lakeside patio where lots of outdoor heaters kept everyone toasty: if they weren’t dancing in their saddle shoes, white bucks, or Keds to songs such as and#8220;It’s My Party, and I’ll Cry If I Want To, and#8220;Chantilly Lace,and#8221; and#8220;Love Me Tender,and#8221; and#8220;Rock Around The Clock,and#8221; and#8220;Blue Suede Shoesand#8221; and and#8220;Love Potion Number Nine.and#8221; After everyone had sufficient time to enjoy a busy cocktail hour, Elvis impersonator Art Stout made an appearance to the revelers’ delight, performing renditions from the rock and roll king’s repertoire.
After working up an appetite, guests grazed on drive-in style fast food like hot dogs, mini hamburgers (sliders), potato chips and pizza and finished off with an over-the-top dessert buffet featuring rice crispy squares, hostess cupcakes, See’s candy, Ding Dongs, Twinkies and chocolate chip cookies. There was even an ice cream cart scooping up yummy ice cream waffle cones!
