Social Scene: Passport to Dining dishes up a world of tasty temptations in Kings Beach

Gabriel Marquez, owner of El Sancho Tacqueria in Tahoe Vista serves authentic Mexican food to Scott Shandrew at the North Tahoe Event Center.

KINGS BEACH, Calif. andamp;#8212; There was no need for extensive travel to get a taste of a multitude of delicious foods from around the world at Passport to Dining. Italian pizza and pasta, Japanese sushi, Mexican tacos, margaritas, French mousse au chocolate cake, all-American ribs, hand made Swiss chocolates, California wine, Nevada microbrew and Bud’s ice cream from San Francisco were just some of the tasty temptations dished up at the annual event. The all-you-can-eat (and sip) event was also a bargain at only $25 per person andamp;#8212; a lot of bang for your buck during these penny pinching times. The signature North Lake Tahoe Business Association gala was held at the North Tahoe Events Center in Kings Beach Oct. 7, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Tahoe and the local Family Resource Center. In addition to more than 25 food and libation stations, a requisite silent auction helped the NTBA raise close to $10,000. More than 300 attendees navigated their way around the spacious lakefront venue, mixing and mingling while sampling the tasting stations. Local and regional participating purveyors at the fundraiser included Jason’s, Hiro Sushi, new restaurant The Grid, El Sancho Taqueria, Twin Peaks Catering, Drunken Monkey, FiftyFifty Brewing Co., Bella Affair, Grant andamp; Eddie Winery, Conrad’s, Buckbean Brewing Co., Caliente!, Steamer’s, Lucchesi Winery, Sobon Wines, Las Panchitas, Java Hut, Lakeside Pizza, CB’s Pizza, Cable Car Ice Cream, Great Basin Brewing Co., Soule Domain, PlumpJack Squaw Valley, Mt. Tallac Brewing, Lanza’s and Cal Neva Resort. Some of those foraging the flavors included NTBA executive director Cheri Sprenger, Geri and Stuart Yount, Bill Yundt, Sally Taylor and Rob Weston, Megan Ahlburn and Mike Milligan, Aline and Emilio Vaca, Sylvia Doignon, Christy Curtis, Jane Sheppard, Sue and Larry Kyler, Jan Colyer, Theresa May Duggan, Dave Ferrari, Sheri and Bruce Pohle, Amanda and Brian Helm, Renae and Scott Bent, Judy Tokubo, Robin Dworkin, Jennifer Merchant, Shelly Fadness, Janet Bella, Crin Connolly and John Shuff, Cathy McClelland and John Bergman, Pat and John Evans, Cris and Joe Hennessey and Patti and Gary Boxeth. Tidbits andamp;#8230; Congrats to Westshore artist Andy Skaff who will have an art show entitled andamp;#8220;Winter Aspensandamp;#8221; at the tony San Francisco Gumps store in January.andamp;#8212; Vicki Kahn may be reached at
