Spring into Music: Take a little trip down melody lane

TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8212; On Saturday, June 18, the Truckee nonprofit Got Music andamp; More is offering a free family event, Spring Into Music, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Community Arts Center, 10046 Church St., Truckee.Spring Into Music is four hours of celebrating music for all ages through special workshops, lunch and a live music performance.Morning workshops include Silly Songs and Sing-Alongs and Songs That Move Us with musical giggle master Todd Wees to delight preschoolers.Young children and those 10 and up will enjoy Learning Rhythm Through Hip-Hop Dance with local recording and performing artist Emily Tessmer. Youths will connect with Elements of a Hit Song with veteran music pro Steve Kershisnik. He will also facilitate a group listen-and-learn session for adults called Let’s Hear It For Your Song.Young children will hit it off with the piano during All Hands ON with Colleen Jackson, executive director of Got Music. Parents will have an opportunity to discover How Learning Music Benefits Children, also led by Colleen.I Rock! is a fun double workshop for developmentally disabled teenagers and adults andamp;#8212; an often overlooked segment of the Truckee community. I Rock! will be led by local performing artist and teacher, Morgan Raithel.Lunch will be provided by local restaurants, including Truckee’s live music hot spot, the Cottonwood.After lunch the whole family will enjoy great live music with Robert Drake, an extraordinary classical and jazz guitarist performing J. S. Bach to John Coltrane in several countries since receiving his Masters in Music in 1985. The workshop instructors may also perform, followed by door prizes and announcements of future Got Music events.Though participation is free, enrollment is limited.
