St. Nicholas Episcopal Church | Bless your pets!

TAHOE CITY, Calif. – St. Nicholas Episcopal Church welcomes all families to bring their furred, feathered, quilled, scaled or shelled companions to a blessing of the animals Sunday, Oct. 14, in honor of the Feast of St. Francis. All reasonably socialized pets and their people are welcome to come to any of our services (it’s a rare service when there are fewer than four dogs in the congregation, and a pet porcupine is common), but this service will include Rev. Jenni calling all the pets as close to the altar as they can peacefully congregate for a special blessing. Anyone staying in the car due to over-stimulation or personality conflicts may receive a separate blessing after the service. Past years have brought dogs, cats, birds, porcupines, squirrels, and assorted amphibians, and it is not unusual for a bear to trundle past.

This year, we would love to see you and your companion(s)! No prior church experience, singing skills, or liturgical knowledge is expected or required. Service begins at 9 a.m. (or so) and is followed by coffee, pastries, and kibbles. St. Nicholas is located at 855 West Lake Blvd., Tahoe City. Contact information: 530-583-4713, or visit
