Phoebe and Ethan Rogers are bunny lovers from way back. CBS Sunday Morning did a segment April 18 about the book and#8220;Rare Portraits of Americaand#8217;s Endangered Speciesand#8221; by Joel Satore and it touched their hearts. The segment showed photographs of Bryn the last of the Columbia Basin Pygmy Rabbits. She was old and looked resigned. Two months after the pictures were taken she died.

The Columbia Basin Pygmy Rabbit is now extinct and the Rogers youngsters want answers. They are mad at the adults who are not leaving a world where there is room for animals. They plan to use the social networking tools with which they are so comfortable to try and answer questions like and#8220;How can we have a vibrant economy and still have biodiversity?and#8221; and and#8220;What does Dominion mean and#8212; the right to destroy, or the responsibility to care for?and#8221;

In five days they organized their first fundraiser at the Tahoe Truckee Earth Day Festival, selling handcrafted hats with the SumKid.org logo: Kid + Kid + Kid + Kid = Answers and fun animal hats for children who want to be part of the animal tribe.

They have started a Facebook group SumKids and look forward to building a national organization to help save some natural space for all of mother Earthand#8217;s magnificent creatures.
