Summer heats up on the North Shore with the Boys & Girls Club

Local youth wont have the chance to say Im bored this summer, thanks to a program from the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe.Through support from the North Tahoe Public Utility District, the Boys & Girls Club created the Summer del Sol Program with reduced fees.What is most important to us are the kids not the money. Sixty percent of our kids have either full or partial scholarships, said Program Director Mindy Carbajal.Teens who pay the annual $50 membership fee can simply drop-in and attend day camp free of charge.The Summer del Sol calendar of events includes Environmental Week, LEGO Robotics Camp, river rafting, water games, sports camps and field trips.Club members can also participate in a multi-sport tournament the Silver State Games held every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Boys & Girls Clubs in North Tahoe, Reno, Carson City, Yerington, Fallon and South Lake locations.The winning teams will compete for the big win on Aug. 17, Championship Day. Other summer events end Aug. 24.Girls & Boys Club of North Lake Tahoe will also host a membership drive mid-August through mid-September, giving away a free T-shirt with the purchase of a reduced membership, said Carbajal.
