Their generosity helps place hundreds of wreaths on the gravesites of our fallen military heroes at more than 350 cemeteries in the U.S. and around the world. In just two short days the cadets raised more than $1,000 for the event. Part of the proceeds will benefit the local CAP cadet education programs. They also traveled to the Veteran’s National Cemetery in Fernley, Nev. to place wreaths on the veteran’s gravesites. This event happens simultaneously across the U.S. from Arlington National Cemetery to the West Coast. I want to thank everyone who helped make this event possible.First and foremost many thanks to The North Tahoe Public Utility District and the North Tahoe Event Center who graciously donated the space for this event and made it possible to use real dishes and flatware so planners could expand on the zero waste theme. Thanksgiving is a big deal holiday and I didnandamp;#8217;t want to use paper plates or plastic flatware itandamp;#8217;s just not classy enough for Thanksgiving. Madonna Dunbar at Waste Not who provided signage and composting and was surprised by how little waste there was. Janet Bella from Bella Affair Catering who donated cookware and wisdom regarding the production of an event this large. Many thanks as well to mentors Marian Jordan, longtime Kings Beach local and Ruth Schnabel of SnowFest! fame as well as George LeBard from Project MANA, all of whom kept the event organizer on track, energized and added information and advice wherever needed. Thanks also to all the great community members who donated food and ingredients for the dinner including: Project MANA, Jasonandamp;#8217;s, Habergerandamp;#8217;s Produce Plus, Tacos Jalisco, The Old Post Office Coffee Shop, and the Crystal Bay Club, as well as contributions of food, time and energy by many local chefs.
