Susan Dornan: Bikeathon will benefit Tahoe-Pyramid Trail effort

The third annual bikeathon to benefit the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail will be held at Great Basin Bicycles in Reno on Feb. 23.

Participants in the indoor cycling event will be charged $12 per hour, with half the proceeds to benefit the work of the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail, the name of the nonprofit group focused on filling gaps in the trail. In partnership with the Tahoe Donner Recreation and Park District, the nonprofit group expects to complete construction of the trail segment through the Truckee Canyon in June, opening a route for bikers and hikers between Reno and Truckee.

Participants bring their own bikes to ride on a platform at the event, to be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the bike shop, 8048 S. Virginia St. To register, call 775-825-8258. Donations also will be accepted at the event.
