SW Gas settlement best for residents

It appears a pact is near between Southwest Gas and the Town of Truckee, and negotiators from both sides are to be commended for their efforts in reaching a compromise.

As recently as a few weeks ago, it seemed the whole matter might be headed for court, followed by further years of delay before any gas line construction took place around town.

Now, as a result of of good-faith efforts by both sides, gas line construction is expected to be completed in Truckee by 2003.

That will bring lines to all parts of town -including Ski Slope Way, Donner Lake and Prosser Acreage, which Southwest had earlier said would be too difficult to service.

In addition, it will bring gas lines to all other parts of Truckee, including remaining parts of the downtown area, Tahoe Donner, central Truckee, Prosser Lakeview and Prosser Heights.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of town councilmembers Ron Florian and Maia Schneider, who served negotiators, as well as residents Kathleen Eagan and Jim Simon, who represented Truckee before the CPUC, a compromise has been reached which appears to be best for Truckee.
