TAHOE DONNER, Calif. and#8212; The Tahoe Donner Green Club encourages the transition to a sustainable living and working environment for Tahoe Donner homes, lands, and Association facilities.

Movie: and#8220;Wonders of Natureand#8221; Family Film Nights viewing the acclaimed PBS series, Planet Earth, first Wednesdays, July 6, Aug. 3, Sept. 7 and Oct. 5 at the Northwoods Clubhouse, 6:30 p.m. in the common area of the clubhouse.
Arrive early and get dinner or snacks from Pizza on the Hill and eat as you watch. Film segments to be shown include mountains, deserts, ice worlds, deep ocean, shallow sea, great plains, jungles, fresh water, seasonal forests, and caves.
Presentation: Truckee River basin and Wetlands Overview, Friday, July 22, TD Club House. Refreshments at 6:30 p.m. with program beginning at 7 p.m. The Truckee Watershed historically has experienced timber harvests, clearing for agriculture, filling and alteration of wetlands, the introduction of invasive species and development in flood plains. Dr. Michael Josselyn will discuss specific Truckee watershed issues, relevant also to Tahoe Donnerand#8217;s wetlands, and the multiple restoration challenges for a system that encompasses alpine to desert biomes.
Hike: Tahoe Donner Wetlands Field Walk, Micki Kelley, Kelley Biological Consulting, Truckee. On Saturday, July 23 meet at the Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center at 8:30 a.m. for a 2-hour walk through Tahoe Donner’s wetlands and become acquainted with the unique wetland environment, its natural history and importance, and learn some of the flora. Micki has served as a consultant for Tahoe Donner in wetland analysis and restoration projects.
Presentation: Climate and Weather in the Tahoe Basin: Past and Future with Mark McLaughlin, award-winning author, speaker, and photographer (see http://www.thestormking.com) Wednesday, Aug. 17. Meet at the TD Lodge Banquet room for refreshments at 6:30 p.m., program beginning at 7 p.m.
This will be a dynamic, informative talk on the Truckee areaand#8217;s weather history since the Donner Party, including the effects from El Nino and La Nina weather events, both in the past and projected over the next several years. McLaughlin will also talk about the occurrence and stability of the Pacific pressure ridge that causes our stormy weather.
Movie: Power Surge: Are we finally on the brink of a clean energy revolution? (a NOVA film from PBS) Wednesday, Sept. 14. Meet at the TD Club House for refreshments at 6:30 p.m. , program at 7 p.m.
Can emerging technology defeat global warming? NOVA travels the globe to reveal the surprising technologies that just might turn back the clock on climate change, focusing on the latest and greatest innovations including everything from artificial trees to green reboots of familiar technologies like coal and nuclear energy. Plan to join in the discussion following the film.
Presentation: How Truckee Is Going Green – Fourth annual Update, Wednesday Oct. 12, Town of Truckee Council Chambers, 10183 Truckee Airport Road, Truckee. Meet at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments with program beginning at 7 p.m.
The following speakers will present significant steps taken during the last year by the Town of Truckee, TDPUD, and the TD Homeowners Association toward long-range sustainability plans for Truckee and Tahoe Donner, including current energy and water conservation initiatives, facility upgrades, and energy/cost-saving strategies. Presenting, Tahoe Donner Association, Robb Etnyre, general manager; Town of Truckee, Tony Lashbrook, city manager and Truckee Donner Public Utility District, Steven Poncelet, public information and conservation manager.
