Tahoe Maritime Museum to host locals day second Saturdays

Special to the Sun

HOMEWOOD, Calif. – The Tahoe Maritime Museum is currently showing its new exhibit Tahoe Twenties: A Story of Boats, Booze, & Business. In celebration of its success, the museum will offer Locals Day, a day of free admission to all Tahoe area residents on the second Saturday of each month through the winter season. The museum, located in Homewood on Lake Tahoe’s west shore, is now showcasing a number of 1920s boats. Highlighted is Florence M II, a 26′ 1926 Stephens Brothers Runabout along with the original 1916 REO Speedwagon, Kerosene Kate, which pulled her up to the lake. The youngest visitors can engage in hands-on activities to better understand maritime history in their own dedicated children’s area. The Tahoe Maritime Museum continues a tradition of providing a fun, family-friendly destination for the Lake Tahoe community and visitors. A private nonprofit, the mission of the Tahoe Maritime Museum is to stimulate an interest in, increase knowledge of, and maintain watercraft and marine artifacts significant in Lake Tahoe’s maritime history through the highest standards of historic preservation, innovative interpretation and public education. The museum is currently on its winter hours, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., last admission at 4:30 p.m. Visit http://www.tahoemaritimemuseum.org or call 530-525-9253, ext. 100.
