Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation names scholarship recipients
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation awarded $42,000 in scholarships to deserving seniors at ceremonies held at Truckee High School Thursday, June 9 and North Tahoe High School on Monday, June 13.
Truckee High School senior Ryan Cowie, who will study at University of California, Los Angeles, was awarded a $30,000 scholarship. University of California, Los Angeles-bound classmate Erica Larusson was the recipient of a $10,000 award. Also receiving $500 scholarships were seniors Allison Gerrard who will be attending University of California, Santa Barbara and Ian Peterson who will be attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obisbo .
North Tahoe High School senior Roxana Cabrera, who will attend University of California, Davis, and Salvatore Monforte, who also plans to study at University of California, Davis, both received $500 scholarships.
and#8220;We had a total of 27 applicants this year that were all exceptional candidates,and#8221; said Terri Stone, TMRF scholarship program director. and#8220;It is very difficult to narrow it down to only six recipients. Our schools are clearly producing some excellent students.and#8221;
Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation is committed to supporting the scholastic efforts of graduating seniors from the Truckee-Tahoe region. Each year TMR Foundation awards six scholarships totaling $42,000. The TMRF scholarship committee reviews all applicants in depth and selects finalists for interviews, which is no easy feat as most of the applicants are exceptional. The scholarship criterion includes financial need, academic performance, extra-curricular activities and an essay provided by the student.
