Tahoe School of Music goes nonprofit
TRUCKEE, Calif. – In an effort to better serve the community and remain true to its mission statement, the Tahoe School of Music in Truckee changed its tax status to nonprofit 501c3 on Sept. 7. The organization currently provides services for Truckee Elementary, Truckee-Donner Parks and Recreation District, Sierra Expeditionary Learning School, Tahoe Expedition Academy, and Forest Charter School. It also offers private and group lessons at its location at 10038 Meadow Way, Ste. E, Truckee, and has an available on-site recording studio and rehearsal space.
“Our goal has always been to provide musical opportunities for children and adults of all ages in the Tahoe-Truckee area regardless of financial situation,” said Tahoe School of Music former owner and now Executive Director Ben Martin. “We think this new status will better support our core values and mission statement.”
Martin is a longtime local performer and avid supporter of a multitude of community music endeavors. He is known for his casual but thorough teaching style that most students find encouraging. “I believe that a relaxed, supportive environment maximizes our ability to learn,” said Martin.
One of the school’s core values supports the belief that musical expression is a natural part of being human and that everybody can play music. “At Tahoe School of Music, we are constantly seeking to disprove the misconception that you’ve either got rhythm or you don’t,” said Martin. “The good news is, we’ve all got it.” According to Martin, the school strives to understand how its students learn so the instructors can teach in a way that makes sense to each individual.
The organization is now accepting tax-deductible financial donations to help purchase a building, upgrade the recital room, purchase a piano, upgrade the recording studio, and provide scholarship funds. They are also accepting the donation of used instruments.
The Tahoe School of Music offers an opportunity in the community for learning and sharing music. They encourage those who are new to music as well as those who are experienced musicians. Tahoe School of music focuses on an environment that serves as a positive outlet not only for learning, but creativity, fun and interaction with others.
