Parent orientation for lakeside students grades fourth through eighth, Wednesday June 24, 6 to 8 p.m., 2945 Polaris Road, North Tahoe High School Auditorium. At 4 p.m. the district is also hosting meetings for PTO, VIPS and ELAC representatives. School administrators, including Eileen Fahrner, Bill Frey, Teresa Rensch, Stephanie Welsh and Joanna Mitchell will be on hand to answer parents’ questions about the upcoming school year. Information to be presented includes teacher assignment updates, current bell schedules, office personnel and duties, and any new information not previously provided. Call 582-2500.

The Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation Queen of Hearts Women’s Fund is sponsoring the second annual and#8220;Senior Spring Cleaningand#8221; for Truckee seniors on Sunday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Truckee Senior Apartments located at 10040 Estates Dr., Truckee.
This is a very valued service to members of the community who cannot physically clean on a regular basis and/or cannot afford cleaning services. Volunteer activities include cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, window washing, beautifying porches, and moving furniture.
Cleaning supplies will be provided by the Queen of Hearts Fund through local donations and cash contributions. Any and all donations of cleaning materials, gardening tools and plants are welcome. Get ahead and refresh your reading, writing and math skills this summer at Clever Minds. Join the celebration of Clever Minds’ sixth year by participating in readiness workshops for language arts and math, geared towards students entering grades six through eight.
Experienced/credentialed, energetic and creative teachers make learning fun by reviewing and previewing important concepts and skills. There is a maximum of five students in each group. Each Middle School Workshop meets twice a week for 1.5 hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 6 to Aug. 13 at Clever Minds Learning Center, located in downtown Truckee.
Readiness Workshops are also available for elementary and high school students. Specialty Workshops in Art and Environmental Science are available for elementary and middle school students. Individual tutoring is available for students of all ages.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The Monthly Pancake Breakfast fundraiser to benefit the Senior Meals program and the Meals on Wheels will be held on July 5 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. in the dining room of the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments, 10040 Estates Dr. in Truckee. Reno/Tahoe based dance company Four Rooms Dance Collective led by Artistic Director Jennie Pitts presents an evening of contemporary dance. The company’s inaugural performances will feature local dancers and a diverse multimedia sensory experience including live vocals, highly stylized visual design and inventive modern dance choreography. The evenings will also include work by guest artists who are some of today’s most innovative dance makers. Alder Creek Middle School is excited to announce 48 of 113 English Learners with a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the second trimester of the 2008-09 school year were rewarded with a tour of UC Berkeley. Generous support and donation of the Cal Alumni group, Bears in the Woods and a grant from Excellence in Education enabled the trip.
The students shadowed the Trenza and Hermanos Unidos student groups of UC Berkeley to motivate educational endeavors and understand the possibilities that exist.
