Spirit Empowerment Center thrivesSpirit Peer Empowerment Center of Truckee wishes to Thank the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation for the award of a $5,000 discretionary grant.These funds have helped to provide free one-on-one peer support from trained peer counselors to individuals struggling with lifeandamp;#8217;s challenges in the community and offer a local peer counselor training to certify more peer counselors and volunteers to serve those in need. Spirit Peer Empowerment Center is a Peer Counseling Center based in Grass Valley with expanded Truckee services. Peer Counseling is a free service offered by volunteers. Community acupuncture, by definition, makes acupuncture more accessible by increasing treatment frequency while reducing costs. It follows the Asian clinic model where multiple patients sit together in a room while receiving acupuncture treatment. The idea is to reduce costs while at the same time providing quality health care in a congenial and supportive environment.The clinic operates on a first come, first serve basis with a sliding- scale fee structure ($20-$40 per treatment). It will be held at Tyler Lapkin Acupuncture, 925 N. Lake Blvd., Ste. 207-B, 5-7 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Upcoming dates are Aug. 4 and Aug. 18.
