Titled “Solutions for a Cultivated Planet: Learning to Feed Nine Billion People While Sustaining the Global Environment,” the presentation will feature Dr. Jon Foley, Director of the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota. The event begins at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.The world population is growing by 75 million people each year. That’s almost the size of Germany. Today, the world is nearing 7 billion people. At the current rate of growth, the world’s population will reach 9 billion people by 2040. Community acupuncture, by definition, makes acupuncture more accessible by increasing treatment frequency while reducing costs. It follows the Asian clinic model where multiple patients sit together in a room while receiving acupuncture treatment. The idea is to reduce costs while at the same time providing quality health care in a congenial and supportive environment.The clinic operates on a first come, first serve basis with a sliding scale fee structure ($20-$40 per treatment). Organizers of The Squaw Mountain Run are looking for five knowledgeable flower enthusiasts to help guide participants of the Aug. 6 “High Camp Flower Walk” event. Flower guides will receive a free cable car ride to High Camp and lead participants to where the flowers are at their best, and help identify what’s blooming. In addition, beginner clinics have been added for Saturday afternoons at the same price.
