Tahoe Truckee Sunshine Letters

The Read Up! literacy program wishes to thank the Truckee Friends of the Library for their strong support of our adult literacy tutoring program here in Truckee. The TFOL recently awarded us funding for ESL/literacy tutor training manuals and student workbooks, including math workbooks. We are very grateful to the TFOL for their generous donation.

The Truckee High Boosters would like to thank the Measure A committee for its hard work and commitment to our local schools. Once again, a small group of people have made a tremendous impact toward the betterment of our school programs. Along with all those who helped with the campaign, and all those who came out to vote, special recognition belongs to Donna Morgan, Chair of Measure A, Phebe Bell, Phyllis McConn, Jody Poe, Sydney Earley, Kristi Darzynkiewicz, Joanna Monforte, Nancy Gisko, and Lynn Richardson. Tahoe Lake Elementary School, King’s Beach, Elementary School, North Tahoe Middle School and North Tahoe High School would like to thank all Safeway staff especially the managers and checkers in King’s Beach and Tahoe City for all their hard work and assistance during the Feb. 10 percent eScrip Back to Schools Drive.

This fundraiser collected more than $13,500 for our four Lakeside public schools in one short month. During these difficult financial times for our school district, these funds from Safeway’s eScrip Program have been vital to enhancing our childrenand#8217;s school experience. Safeway-eScrip funds are used for our Nutrition Coalition Harvest of the Month programs, assemblies, field trips, physical education equipment and programs, Star Testing snacks and many more activities.

In addition, Safeway’s eScrip program via Safeway card supporters to each school site also provides thousands of dollars in supplemental funding throughout the year. If you live in our community and shop at Safeway, please consider signing up for this free program at http://www.escrip.com under About the Program, Sign Up or for more information, contact your local school.

Thank you Safeway for your dedication in helping fund educational programs positively impacting all of our children in local public schools.

Once again, I want to thank Northstar Fire Department for donating the time and knowledge to train Tahoeand#8217;s Connection for Families staff and parents on CPR. The feed back I receive from the parents who took the course is one of confidence and comfort. Andy Hamand#8217;s teaching style demonstrates his professional experience as well as his personal understanding as a father of a young child.

The Tahoe/Truckee area is fortunate to be in the safe hands of the Northstar Fire Department and to have someone like Andy dedicated to keeping our families safe.
