Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District bus passes on sale now

TRUCKEE/TAHOE andamp;#8212; Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD) announced bus passes for the 2010/2011 school year are now on sale and early bird savings will be in effect until Aug. 31. Passes will remain the same price as last year and the cost to replace a lost pass has been dropped from $20 to $10.Process by mailAfter initiating the bus pass program last year, TTUSD Director of Transportation Nanette Rondeau says they made changes to streamline the processing. Instead of submitting applications in person parents may mail their child’s application with payment. In addition, pictures will be updated every other year, so if a student had a bus pass last year, there is no need to submit or take a new photo. If a student did not have a buss pass last year, he or she may still submit an application by mail but will need to send a photo via e-mail; or for individuals who do not have access to a computer, applications must be submitted in person.”We acknowledge that many parents would like to skip standing in line, so we’re hoping many families will take advantage of the opportunity to mail in their applications ahead of time this year,” she comments. Next year, TTUSD will use students’ school photos taken this fall.According to Steve Jennings, TTUSD superintendent, when the school board approved this program last summer, they opted for the plan with the least financial impact to Tahoe-Truckee families. “Our fee schedule includes discounts for siblings, a 20-ride card for infrequent riders, as well as free and reduced passes for eligible families.”Students requiring a free or reduced bus pass, however, will need to apply in person. To determine eligibility, call Rose Wolterbeek at 582-2528. Processing dates will be offered at most school sites. TTUSD Transportation personnel request individuals arrive with applications completed; applications may be downloaded at http://www.ttusd.org/transportation. To purchase pass by mail, send the application (www.ttusd.org) and fee to TTUSD, Transportation Maintenance andamp; Operations (TMO), 12485 Joerger Drive, Truckee, CA 96161. TTUSD requests that you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your application. JPEG photos may be e-mailed to the Transportation Office at bp@ttusd.org.How it worksThe TTUSD bus fleet is equipped with GPS units and card readers. Students carry plastic cards containing the student’s name, picture and assigned bus stops that are scanned by the reader as the student boards the bus. The GPS tracker then posts the card number, time and location when the card was scanned.”This technology allows us to determine in real time when and where that student got on and off the bus,” Rondeau says. “It has been a valuable safety feature for the district.”All passes must be purchased in advance and bus drivers will accept no cash. Credit card purchasing via PayPal will be available in mid-August through the Transportation Office. No students will be denied transportation at any bus stop in the morning unless they have lost their transportation privileges. Master bus schedules will be posted on the district’s website in mid-August.TTUSD bus pass program purchase at-a-glanceRequirements: In order to ride the school bus to and from school all student, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, must purchase a pass. All students riding the bus must have an application on file and a valid bus pass in their possession. Upon distribution of transportation passes all students must show/scan their pass when boarding the bus in the morning, midday and afternoon. Families must pay for all students at one time.Visit http://www.ttusd.org or call 550-0745 for information.andamp;#8212; Submitted to the Sun by Switchback PR for TTUSD to aedgett@sierrasun.com
