Tahoe Youth Ballet to host ‘Meet the Artists’
Cobblestone businesses, Tahoe Youth Ballet and Corkscrews Wine Bar will team up for an evening of culture and wine to wrap up the holidays. Sip wines from 4-7, with the Tahoe Youth Ballet’s new studio open upstairs at 6 p.m. to meet Tahoe Youth Ballet’s dancers and guest artists. Hear their stories and learn about preparations for the company’s spring season.
Tahoe Youth Ballet is proud to host former New York City Ballet dancer Deborah Wingert for a series of masters classes while she choreographs her new ballet, “Valse Romantique,” on the company. Stephen Straub, formerly with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Suzanne Farrell Ballet, will be the guest artist for the company’s March performances in which Wingert’s piece will debut. He joins the company for a week of rehearsals with Wingert in TYB’s new rehearsal studio in the heart of downtown Tahoe City.
Tahoe Youth Ballet was founded in February of 2009 by Christin Hanna, a west shore native who recently returned to Lake Tahoe after dancing professionally in New York and throughout the United States for 10 years. “Tahoe Youth Ballet gives the young dancers of our community a similar opportunity to the one I had, which enabled me to enter the profession with the experience and dedication that being a dancer requires,” said Hanna.
The guest artistry of both Wingert and Straub are at the core of continuing the company’s mission, which seeks to educate young dancers through the experience of working with seasoned professionals. The works are then presented in first-rate performances for the community to experience professional ballet, modern and contemporary dance in north Lake Tahoe.
Saturday, Jan. 2, Wine tasting from 4-7 p.m., Meet the Artists at 6 p.m. Tahoe Youth Ballet Studio and Corkscrews Wine Bar in the Cobblestone Center, 475 N. Lake Blvd., Tahoe City.
