Thanks for Giving: Excellence in Education grant highlight

Special to the Sun

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Donand#8217;t know the difference between an arpeggio and a cadenza? The Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation might not know either, but it certainly understands the importance of music for Truckee High School students.

Last year the Foundation funded two grants and#8212; a total of $3,750 and#8212; for the high schooland#8217;s band program. The money went to much-needed sheet music, new instruments and a video camera to record and instantly analyzethe audio and visual aspects of the performances. In an effort to pay it forward for financial donations, the Truckee High School band program regularly plays at community fundraisers as well as senior citizen centers and hospitals throughout northern California.

The Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization that supports quality public education within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. Each year the Foundation raises money and provides grants, resources and partnerships to benefit students, teachers and the educational community as a whole.

During this season of gratitude, the foundation is reaching out to the community with the Thanks For Giving campaign slated for Nov. 13-20. Giving levels are designed to fit everyoneand#8217;s style. Teachers, TTUSD staffers and parents can look for convenient donation boxes at school sites, while others can offer their financial thanks online or call 530-550-7984.
